The holidays of Martinique
Martinique, also known as the flower island, is a French region located in the Caribbean, exactly in the archipelago of the Lesser Antilles.

Martinique therefore respects almost all French public holidays and also celebrates other festivals, some of which are also public holidays such as the Victor Schoelcher festival or the abolition of slavery.

The carnival of Martinique, which is an integral part of these days of festivity, is particularly expected by Martinique.

This carnival, which takes place over 5 days, begins with the Sunday Fat and its parade. it continues with Fat Monday and a Burlesque Wedding, where men dress in women and women in men!

Then comes Ash Wednesday, with its celebrations in black and white, not to mention the many Carnival evenings that take place in discos in Martinique from February 1st.

In March, Martinique, which is traditionally a Catholic island, observes Lent.

Thus, the day after the carnival, 40 days of renunciation that relate to all things related to the sins, are observed by almost all the inhabitants of the archipelago Martinique. Finally, on Easter Sunday, Martinicans are found with family and friends, at the beach or along the rivers.

The abolition of slavery
On May 22, Martinique celebrates the abolition of slavery, a very popular day in the archipelago.

Conferences are organized, as well as Bèlè evenings (traditional dance), but also commemorative marches that are open to all. This special day for Martinique allows tourists to learn more about the history of Martinique and especially colonization.

All Saints Day in Martinique
Toussaint is a catholic festival particularly observed in Martinique. The cemeteries are all decorated and cleaned to be the cleanest and most primed possible. The tombs and the family vaults are illuminated by candles.
